A fresh teaser image and a brief teaser trailer for the upcoming Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu film were released. There is still no information available on the staff or a prospective release date.

There have already been a few anime adaptations of the franchise, which is based on the video game Touken Ranbu. Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru, the first TV anime, premiered in the fall of 2016. The 12-episode cartoon series was produced by Studio Doga Kobo. In the winter of 2018, the follow-up Zoku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru was released. The animated series Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu, which is related to the impending film, debuted in the summer of 2017 and was produced by ufotable. The anime was aired on Crunchyroll. A trilogy of Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru films is also under development.

▍About Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu
The story takes place in 1863. Japan is divided. As the age of the sword is drawing to an end, pro-shogunate forces and anti-shogunate groups engage in combat. Spirits that reside within swords are known as Sword Warriors. Following their encounter while working for the same master, Horikawa Kunihiro transforms into a Sword Warrior and joins Izuminokami Kanesada. Together, they struggle to survive while defending the globe from historical revisionists who have been sent from the future to change the course of history.
Touken Ranbu, a card game played online, is the source of the series. The game first came out in Japan in 2015, and it was released internationally in April of this year. In addition to the two anime adaptations, the franchise has also spawned two stage plays, a live-action film, and a spin-off video game.
